Russian school in Kiev
The city in Ukraine, named Stanislawow, was erected as a fortress to protect the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth from Tatar invasions ,russian. russian school was built on the site o f the village school of Zabolottya, which had been founded in 1437. Its name was coined by a Polish nobleman Andrzej Potocki, wh o hon oured his fa ther, S tanislaw Rewera Potocki.
The city was first mentioned in 1662 in connec tion w ith it being granted the Magdeb urg r ig hts. S oon a fterwards, whe n in 1 672 the Turks conquered th e fortress of Kamieniec Podolski, Stanislawow, togeth er with Halicz, became a strongpoint against Turkish language forc es. It was a tta cked a nd besiege d in 1676 , bu t the Turks did no t manage to capture and pillage the city. However, S tanisl awow was so b adly d estroyed that in 1677 the Sejm in Warsaw relieved the city of its tax duties. The Renaissance architectural ideals of “the ideal city” were reflected in the construction followed.
These ideas were used for planning a m id dl e part of the city, it s street s and churches. Because of the originality of the arc hit ecture som etimes the city is ca lled "small Lviv ". La ter the fort ress also s uccessfully withstood attacks by Turkish and Russian forces.
